Student Residence (On Campus)

  • Winter Hall is conveniently located in downtown Grand Rapids, on Grand Valley State University's Pew Campus, close to a variety of restaurants, shopping and entertainment options. Students can take the local public bus (the Rapid) for free to the ELS Center. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes.Students enjoy the fact that the dorms are located on GVSU's downtown Grand Rapids campus as there are more entertainment, cultural, art, and food options when living in the center of Grand Rapids. The center (where students will attend classes) is located on GVSU's Allendale campus, and this campus is a beautiful and safe place to study.
    Single option:Single dorm option: Private bedroom in a shared suite-style unit. Shared suite-style bathroom and kitchen.
    Single Deluxe option: Completely private space--student has a private bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.
    Include a full size refrigerator, stove, dining table and chairs. A microwave is available in the communal student lounge. There is a gym, recreation area, and community room located in the building. Linens are also included and can be changed weekly. Students have access to the laundry facilities. Students clean their own rooms during stay.

Homestay

ELS/Grand Rapids has a welcoming group of American families that are eager to host international students. These families have wonderful homes-many of the families have children, grandchildren, or pets living in their home. Grad Rapids Host families n have a genuine interest in sharing American culture as well as learning the background of the students. ELS takes great care in finding families that fit both student needs and preferences to ensure a positive homestay experience. All families provide a private bedroom with breakfast and dinner on weekedays and all three meals on weekends. Many of the families are near free Rapid public bus lines. If the homestay is not on the public bus line, the family may choose to bring their students to and from school every day.

  • Meal Credits
  • 16 meals per week. Homestay families provide 16 meals per week to students. This includes breakfast and dinner every day of the week and lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Homestay families are willing to accommodate special diet restrictions due to allergies, religion, and personal preferences. Many families enjoy teaching their students how to cook American dishes, and in turn, the students enjoy teaching their homestay families how to cook traditional dishes from their home country.
