ELS Announces Strategic Expansion

ELS Educational Services, Inc. with global headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey, is pleased to announce the opening of seven new ELS university partnerships and a number of strategic appointments in their executive team.

ELS continues to expand its cooperation with highly ranked universities that appeal to international students.

Asked about expansion in the USA, Mark W. Harris, President Emeritus of ELS, said, “ELS is proud to open ELS Language Centers on the campuses of the following universities:

  • Hofstra University – Hempstead, NY (Private)
  • Augustana University – Sioux Falls, SD (Private)
  • Rutgers University–Camden – Camden, NJ
  • McNeese State University – Lake Charles, LA
  • West Chester University of Pennsylvania – West Chester, PA
  • University of Wisconsin – Parkside – Kenosha, WI
  • International Technological University – San Jose, CA (Private)”

Additionally, in collaboration with Berlitz and Benesse Corporation, ELS is establishing English language programs with prestigious universities in Japan. Freshmen entering these programs will complete a full semester of ELS intensive English for Academic Purposes in Japan before coming to ELS on-campus Centers at twenty-three university partner campuses here in the USA where they will study for one academic year.

Strategic appointments on the ELS Management team include:

Mark W. Harris has transitioned to President Emeritus, from President & CEO of ELS, in order to dedicate more of his time to business development consulting with ELS partner universities, and to plan recruitment strategies to enhance enrollment from SE Asia, Oceania, Africa, Central Asia and Latin America.

Reiji Terasaka has joined the team as Chief Operating Officer to lead investment in ELS expansion to campuses in the USA, but also to new ELS on-campus programs in Japan, where we have recently delivered programs at three of the Super Global Universities. Reiji has a B.A. from Tokyo University, an MALD from Tufts and an MBA from Stanford. Prior to joining ELS he worked for the Ministry of Finance in Japan and was an investment professional at The Carlyle Group, where he covered the education sector. Reiji’s extensive business experience in the East Asian countries will further strengthen our ELS East Asian operations and B2B and B2C models in these key markets for US higher education.

Alexandra Zilovic has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Global Operations and Business Affairs. In this role she will be focusing on Student Success initiatives at ELS On-Campus pathways in the USA, Canada and Australia, and the delivery of a wide range of university services to support successful integration of students on US campuses, including intercultural awareness for administrators and faculty, ELS Soft Landing® orientation programs, training in classroom management and pedagogy for International Teaching Assistants, and other initiatives.

Mallik Sundharam has been promoted to Vice President of Business Development. Prior to joining ELS, Mallik earned an M.S. and an MBA at Saint Joseph’s University where he established a very successful CRM for recruitment of undergraduate and graduate candidates. In 2010, Mallik established ELS India as a non-biased higher educational counseling agency. Under his leadership, ELS India was recognized by the US Department of Commerce for Promoting US Higher Education in India. Earlier this year, ELS India was recognized with the highest award by the Ministry of Higher Education in India as the Best Educational Counseling Organization in India. Mallik continues to direct ELS counseling and recruitment activities throughout India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

ELS has expanded its portfolio of services for universities to include a wide range of programs for students and faculty to enhance understanding, integration, and student success.

ELS has also launched programs to assist international students to gain practical training experience (CPT and OPT) while in the USA and also work opportunities in their countries of origin, assisted by Going Global, ELS certified counselors, and ELS alumni networks comprised of thousands of ELS graduates in major cities around the world.

ELS is celebrating 55 years of empowering international student recruitment, leading English curriculum for academic purposes, and enabling international student success. Students from more than 140 countries attend ELS in the USA each year.
